The Wuhan Open 2026 is underway with qualifying in Wuhan, China, as the final WTA 1000 tournament of the season prepares for its 56-player women’s singles main draw.

Last updated on October 10, following completion of the opening round of qualifying and confirmation of the 56-player main draw.

The tournament is played on outdoor hard courts at the Optics Valley International Tennis Centre, with qualifying taking place on October 10–11 before the main draw begins on Monday, October 12.

The singles champion will be crowned on Sunday, October 18.

Wuhan carries a $4,088,211 total financial commitment, with 1,000 ranking points and $665,000 going to the singles champion.

Aryna Sabalenka is the No. 1 seed following Elena Rybakina’s withdrawal, while Jessica Pegula, Mirra Andreeva, Linda Noskova, Elina Svitolina, Karolina Muchova, Iga Swiatek and Marta Kostyuk complete the top eight. Those eight players receive first-round byes.

Wuhan Open Tournament Evolution

The Wuhan Open was first held in 2014 and has since become one of the key tournaments on the Asian hard-court swing.

  • The tournament was not held between 2020 and 2023, before returning to the calendar in 2024.
  • The 2026 Wuhan Open is the ninth edition of the tournament and remains a WTA 1000 event.
  • Wuhan is also the final WTA 1000 tournament of the 2026 season.
  • Aryna Sabalenka has been the dominant player in recent tournament history, winning three consecutive editions in which she competed: 2018, 2019 and 2024.
  • Coco Gauff succeeded Sabalenka as champion in 2025.
  • Gauff defeated Jessica Pegula 6-4, 7-5 in the 2025 final, becoming the first Wuhan champion since the event began in 2014 to win the title without dropping a set.

The Wuhan Open uses a 56-player singles draw.

Unlike the 96-player China Open draw, Wuhan has only eight first-round byes. Those go to the eight highest seeds, while the other 48 players contest the first round.

The field consists of direct entrants, four wildcards and eight qualifiers, with the qualifying places being decided on October 11.
