Kinoshita Group Japan Open Tournament Evolution

The Japan Open has a considerably longer history than its current Osaka incarnation, while the women’s event has changed cities several times since becoming a standalone tournament.

  • The event became a women’s-only WTA tournament in 2009.
  • Osaka hosted the tournament from 2009 through 2014.
  • It moved to Tokyo from 2015 through 2017.
  • The tournament was staged in Hiroshima in 2018 and 2019.
  • It then disappeared from the calendar for three years from 2020 through 2022.
  • The tournament returned to Osaka in 2023 as a WTA 250.
  • Leylah Fernandez won the 2025 title and is the defending champion.

Kinoshita Group Japan Open 2026 Women’s Singles Draw

Six positions in the original main draw remain marked as Qualifier, with those places to be filled after the final qualifying round on October 18. The official main draw was released on October 17.
