Serena Williams chose this tournament for her tennis comeback in doubles. Together with Victoria Mboko, she defeated the experienced doubles pair of Nicole Melichar-Martinez (World No.15 in doubles) and Erin Routliffe (No.11) 7-6(2), 6-2.
One day later, Victoria Mboko had to retire from her singles match against Karolina Pliskova due to what appeared to be a knee injury.
