Tournament Evolution – Washington DC Open
- 2011: The women’s Washington tournament is established as a WTA International event and initially takes place in College Park, Maryland.
- 2012: The women’s competition moves to the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington, D.C.
- 2022: The women’s competition returns to the WTA calendar as a WTA 250 event.
- 2023: The women’s tournament merges with the Silicon Valley Classic and is upgraded to WTA 500 level, creating the world’s only combined ATP and WTA 500 event.
- 2026: The Mubadala DC Open continues as a WTA 500 hard-court tournament, with the main draw staged from July 27–August 2 at the Rock Creek Park Tennis Center.
