Tournament Evolution – Washington DC Open

  • 2011: The women’s Washington tournament is established as a WTA International event and initially takes place in College Park, Maryland.
  • 2012: The women’s competition moves to the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington, D.C.
  • 2022: The women’s competition returns to the WTA calendar as a WTA 250 event.
  • 2023: The women’s tournament merges with the Silicon Valley Classic and is upgraded to WTA 500 level, creating the world’s only combined ATP and WTA 500 event.
  • 2026: The Mubadala DC Open continues as a WTA 500 hard-court tournament, with the main draw staged from July 27–August 2 at the Rock Creek Park Tennis Center.

Main Draw

The Washington DC Open 2026 WTA draw features 28 players competing across five rounds.

Unlike the 32-player Prague Open draw, the Washington WTA 500 field contains 20 direct entrants, four wildcards and four qualifiers. The four highest-seeded players receive first-round byes and begin their tournaments in the round of 16.
