The tournament is played at the BTarena on indoor hard courts. Its inaugural edition took place in October 2021 and was voted the WTA 250 Tournament of the Year 2021 by the players.

The event is held under the high patronage of Her Majesty Margareta, Custodian of the Romanian Crown.

The tournament also features a unique yellow T-shirt for Romanian tennis fans, displaying a vampire bat alongside a tennis ball.
