Qualifying Draw Indian Wells Results
Qualifying – Final Round
March 2-3: Seeds Fall as Bartunkova and Boulter Exit Early
The final round of qualifying at Indian Wells produced its first shocks before the main draw had even begun, with several established names falling short of the main-draw cutoff.
The biggest upset came when Victoria Jiménez Kasintseva rallied from a set down to defeat Katie Boulter 2–6, 7–5, 6–2. Boulter, one of the higher-profile players in the qualifying field, appeared in control early but lost momentum as the Andorran teenager turned the match around with aggressive baseline play in the final two sets.
Another notable surprise followed as Himeno Sakatsume eliminated highly regarded Czech youngster Nikola Bartunkova 7–5, 1–6, 6–3. After narrowly dropping the opening set, Bartunkova took command of the seond set but could not sustain that effort in the decider.
Elsewhere, Taylor Townsend booked her place in the main draw, brushing aside fellow American Alana Urhobo 6–0, 7–6 after a one-way first set and a tighter second-set tiebreak.
Linda Fruhvirtova also exited after a tight two-set defeat against Anastasia Zakharova.
A handful of players advanced with authority. Storm Hunter, Marina Stakusic, Kayla Day, Diane Parry, and Mananchaya Sawangkaew all secured convincing wins to punch their tickets into the main draw.
