Clara Tauson Ends 2026 Season After Injury-Hit Year: “I Kept My Head High”

Clara Tauson has called time on her 2026 season after another year repeatedly interrupted by physical problems.

The 23-year-old Dane confirmed that she will not play again this year and will instead focus on recovering properly before returning in 2027.

Her latest setback came in Wuhan, where she retired against Marie Bouzkova while trailing 6-1, 2-0 after receiving treatment on her left calf.

For Tauson, that withdrawal became another reminder of how difficult the season had become.

“I fought as much as I could all season and kept my head high, but there were more lows than highs, and too few weeks when I was able to play the way I wanted.”

The most striking part of her message, however, concerned what comes next.

Tauson said she will now take as much time as necessary to recover. She also revealed that she has not taken a proper uninterrupted holiday in ten years, something she finally intends to change.

A Season That Slipped Away

The rankings show how sharply her year unravelled.

Tauson finished 2025 as the world No. 12. She has now dropped to No. 53 after recording only 16 victories during the 2026 season.

Her final weeks offered little relief. The Wuhan retirement extended her losing streak to four matches, with three of those defeats coming in the opening round of her tournaments.

At 23, Tauson still has plenty of time to reset. But after spending so much of 2026 fighting her body as well as her opponents, stepping away may be the most sensible decision she has made all season.

For once, there is no next tournament to prepare for.

There is only time to recover.
