Round of 64
Day 2
The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships delivered a dramatic Monday, with upsets and standout performances shaping the second-round lineup.
Emma Raducanu and Leylah Fernandez were among the shock exits, both falling in tight battles despite late resistance. Indonesian rising star Janice Tjen defeated Fernandez for the second time in a month, while Croatian lucky loser Antonia Ruzic stunned Raducanu in three sets.
American players, however, impressed. Teenager Iva Jovic rebounded from a second-set collapse to dominate the decider against Kamila Rakhimova, and Emma Navarro steadied her recent form with a confident straight-sets win over Gabriela Ruse.
Amanda Anisimova advanced without playing after Barbora Krejcikova withdrew due to a thigh injury, continuing the Czech’s difficult run with fitness setbacks.
Paula Badosa also marked a successful return, defeating Katerina Siniakova in two sets to set up a high-profile clash with Elina Svitolina in the next round.
Day 1
The opening round of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships featured several high-profile appearances, highlighted by Alexandra Eala’s progression to the second round after Hailey Baptiste was forced to retire early in the second set. Eala delivered a composed 6–4 opening set, landing 70% of her first serves and converting two of three break points before Baptiste’s physical issues ended the match.
Barbora Krejcikova also marked her return in style, defeating Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in straight sets in a rematch of the 2021 Roland Garros final. The Czech served efficiently, saved every break point she faced, and secured a second-round meeting with Amanda Anisimova.
Meanwhile, Leylah Fernandez found her rhythm again with a hard-fought three-set victory over No. 17 seed Liudmila Samsonova, earning her first Top-20 win of the season. The Canadian now moves on to face Janice Tjen in round two, seeking redemption after a recent defeat to the Indonesian.
