Aryna Sabalenka (Wrl) vs. Karolina Muchova (Cze) 6-3 6-4 ↓
Aryna Sabalenka booked her place in the Brisbane International final for a third straight year with a composed 6–3, 6–4 win over Karolina Muchova.

The world No. 1 finally flipped a difficult rivalry, earning her first win over Muchova since 2019 after three straight defeats.
Sabalenka seized early control, racing to a 3–0 lead and setting the tone with authoritative serving.

She won an imposing 94 percent of first-serve points, blunting Muchova’s variety and forcing long, physical service games.

Muchova showed resistance, saving break points late in the first set, but could not shift the balance.

Sabalenka now stands one win from her 22nd career title as she builds momentum toward the Australian Open.

Jessica Pegula (Usa) vs. Marta Kostyuk (Ukr) 0-6 3-6 ↓
In the aftermath of her win over Jessica Pegula, Kostyuk addressed the controversy that has followed her since October 2025. She made clear that the storm stemmed from a journalistic failure, saying she was massively misquoted in an interview and never made the comments attributed to her about testosterone levels or physical differences between players.

The scale of the misquotation, she explained, was what made it so difficult. Seeing her words reframed around a completely different topic and spread widely on social media was upsetting, particularly as it was the first time she had been misquoted to such an extent.

Kostyuk, known for speaking openly and offering strong opinions, said the situation was especially disappointing because she enjoys engaging in deeper discussions and sharing different perspectives. In this case, she stressed, it was not her responsibility to correct something she never said.

Once a follow-up article was published acknowledging the editorial error, she felt the matter had been clarified. She chose not to raise the issue privately with Aryna Sabalenka or Iga Swiatek, adding that if she had genuinely said something wrong, she would have apologized without hesitation.

Sabalenka A. (Wrl) vs Keys M. (Usa) 6-3 6-3 ↓
In a match defined by power hitting and momentum swings, Aryna Sabalenka held her nerve and edged past Madison Keys by winning 56% of the total points.

While both players hit multiple aces, it was Sabalenka’s cleaner serving—just 2 double faults to Keys’ 8—that gave her the edge.

She also returned more effectively, converting 5 of 11 break points and limiting Keys to just 38% of return points won.

Both players split pressure points evenly (8/16), but Sabalenka’s consistency on key rallies and return strength proved decisive over 90 minutes.

Rybakina E. (Kaz) vs Muchova K. (Cze) 2-6 6-2 4-6 ↓
Karolina Muchova seized control early, stringing together five straight games to take the opening set 6–2 as Elena Rybakina struggled badly on serve.
Rybakina hit back in the second, capitalizing on a dip from Muchova and her errors to level the match with a comfortable 6–2 response.
The decider swung back and forth, but Muchova showed greater composure, immediately recovering a break and tightening her service games.
Late serving lapses from Rybakina proved decisive, allowing Muchova to close out the win and reach her first WTA semifinal since Dubai 2025.

Andreeva M. (Wrl) vs Kostyuk M. (Ukr) 6-7(7) 3-6 ↓
No handshake here, of course, between Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk and Russia’s Mirra Andreeva.

What happened before was a match played on a knife edge, with Kostyuk operating at ferocious intensity and little separating the two throughout. Andreeva was never overwhelmed, but she was edged out at the key moments as Kostyuk repeatedly raised her level.

When the second set tightened at 4-all under break pressure, it was the Ukrainian who kept her game, then breaking late to seal a hard-fought 6–3 finish and a straight-sets win.

Qualifying Draw Results

Qualifying – Final Round

The final round of qualifying in Brisbane delivered exactly what it tends to promise: momentum swings, patched-together comebacks, and a few sharp reminders that nothing comes easily this early in January.

Anna Bondar powered through Katie Volynets in three sets, reasserting control whenever the match threatened to drift. Shuai Zhang navigated a more delicate path against local wildcard Taylah Preston, regrouping after a second-set wobble to close it out in three. Rebecca Šramková was far more ruthless, sweeping aside Kamilla Rakhimova in straight sets with little fuss.

There was drama elsewhere. Yulia Putintseva could not stem Olivia Gadecki’s surge, losing in three as the Australian flipped the match on its head. Gabriela Ruse finished strongest of all, pulling away decisively in the final set after trading the opening two, while Aliaksandra Sasnovich steadied herself to see off Maria Timofeeva in three sets. Six spots in the main draw, earned the hard way.
